Bhaktapur Craft Paper Announces the Winners of the 3rd Greeting Card Design Contest!

Bhaktapur Craft Paper had invited artists and designers living in Nepal to participate in the 3rd greeting card design contest 2011. A set of cards was to be designed with design topics such as Nepali traditional art and heritage, modern art, Christmas, New Year, special events like marriages, birthdays and anniversaries.

On September 22nd Bhaktapur Craft Paper announced in a ceremony the eight best designers which were:

- Chanda Shrestha

- Rajendra Prasad Yakami

- Krishna Charan Bhuju

- Milan Sherchan

- Raju Chitrakar

- Dhiraj Bayalkoti

- Monica Pradhan

Our Company

 

Bhaktapur Craft Paper Ltd (BCP) established in 1981 at Bhaktapur Industrial District, Bhaktapur as a Community Developmet Project of UNICEF, Nepal under the bilateral agreement between UNICEF/ Nepal and Government of Nepal for the improvement of quality of life of low-income urban and rural families.

 

 During the 1970s with the growth of tourism in Nepal, interest in Nepali handmade paper craft product began to rise. It was in 1980/81 that the traditional craft paper took a turning point when UNICEF launched the project “Community Development through Production of Greeting Cards”. The project aimed to improve the quality of life of Lokta cutters and paper makers in the rural areas and to provide them employment opportunities. Beside this, the project also covered urban-based paper craft producers capitalizing their old block printing skills of Bhaktapur thus leading to the establishment of Bhaktapur Craft Printers (BCP), now incorporated in 2004 as “Bhaktapur Craft Paper Ltd.” in Bhaktapur.

 

Bhaktapur Craft Paper Ltd has been incorporated with equal shareholding of all the staffs and workers of the then UNICEF Project BCP more than 50% comprise of women of Bhaktapur. 

 

 BCP is a member of World Fair Trade Organization (WFTO) and Fair Trade Group Nepal (FTG) committed to regional and Global Fair Trade Movement.

  •  To promote women's participation in income generating activities as a vehicle for the identification, implementation and support of Community Development services meet basic needs.
  •  To improve the quality of life of program beneficiaries and other in the targeted communities, especially children and women.
  •  To strengthen the delivery of community development activities and promote community self-help in the targeted areas, focusing primarily  on the needs of children and women.
  •  To Raise the income of poor families in the project areas.
  •  To increase the capacity of the institutions and communities concerned.
  •  To protect fragile ecology of Nepal's forest  by sustainable supply of Lokta raw material adhhering eight years rotation cycle under Lokta  Management Plan formulated by the Company with support Nepal Government Ministry of Forest
